Mamas

Sunday was a swirl of thoughts and emotions that have been burning in my heart and mind over the last two days. I have been wanting to sit down and write, and have actually several times, but lacked a focus of what was in my head to know where to even start.

I woke up to the beautiful site of my son snuggled in to me.

It was the best way to start my first official Mother's Day.

As I lay there savoring every sweet second, I thought back to the last two Mother's Days, both of which I was newly pregnant, anticipating the joys and excitement of becoming a mom for the first time. Having been pregnant twice now, I know that there are two sides to Mother's Day.

Trail Mix Granola

Last week we headed out to San Diego for Carissa's graduation. By we, I mean, Eli and me. We had to leave poor Luis behind. I'm guessing by Eli's face, he wasn't too happy about that??

Our gift for Riss, unfortunately, did not arrive before our flight last Thursday. Not wanting to show up empty handed I headed to the kitchen in search of something I could make that was quick and easy using ingredients I already had on-hand.

Lights, Camera, Action

A few months ago, we got to be a part of something that I can honestly say I would have never thought I would experience in my life.

We were on the set of a commercial shoot.

And not just on the set of it, but actually in the commercial shoot.

Grandma's Biscuits and Gravy

In our family you know it is going to be a great breakfast if either

a. Dad is in the kitchen making his famous pancakes

or

b. Grandma is making her biscuits and gravy

Today we have Grandma's biscuits and gravy but with a little bit of a remix to them.

Grandma's biscuits and gravy are total comfort food. They're super low cal too. ahem. That's a fact. At least that's what I like to tell myself when I'm scarfing them down for breakfast.

Have you ever ordered biscuits and gravy in a restaurant and gotten them and wondered, "Where the heck is the sausage??" I feel like they either: a. don't include the sausage in their gravy or b. grind it up so small that you think they didn't include the sausage in their gravy. It's just not good. Especially when you grew up with Grandma's biscuits and gravy.

Warm, creamy gravy filled with big pieces of sausage and a surprise ingredient: hard boiled eggs, served over warm biscuits just out of the oven.

Today's biscuits and gravy have all that and more! I mixed up the traditional recipe with a little garlic, bacon, and spinach added in the mix.

Tuesday Ridiculousness

If you've ever been to New York, or even New Jersey for that matter, there's one thing you will notice almost immediately. People honk A LOT. And by a lot, I mean all. the freaking. time.

Seriously, how is everyone so stressed? It's the road rage capital of the world over here. I'm pretty sure the entire 3 months that I was in Arizona, I could count on one hand the number of times I heard someone honking.

I couldn't even do that after 5 minutes of being in the city. Sometimes I feel like people honk just to honk. If they haven't heard a honk for a minute or two they do it just to make sure they keep the city nice and loud and uh, honky (??).

It's all part of the energy and feel of New York so they are just doing their part to help out.

Interestingly enough though, I noticed a sign where we live, an area with a fair amount of honking--seriously, do people not get that we have a sleeping baby?!?!--that said "Honking is prohibited."
